Process
A unique creative technique that utilizes the artist's own photography, drawing and coloring individual shapes and layering those shapes together digitally to create what has the appearance of a silk screen or Japanese wood block print.
Each print is signed and numbered.
All ink, paper, linen tape and matting materials are authentic archival quality. Archival or museum grade paper is an especially permanent, durable acid-free paper.
Artist
Statement
I am drawn to bright vivid colors and contrast, whether they be a brilliant neon red sign against the dark wall of an inner city building or the infinite, saturated shades of green in a radiant tree bathed in late day sun. In my early artistic development, I concentrated on drawing and graphics and made the logical move to digital art and computer graphics that gave the ability to create abstractly, with a heavy contrast of light and dark, and saturated color. Much of my artwork is focused on the magic hours of dusk in urban settings. My major creative influences include Vincent Van Gogh, Edward Hopper and Bill Kohn, my painting professor from Washington University, whose work is dominated by abstract planes of intense contrast and dazzling hues.
Mark Hurd was born and raised in St. Charles, Missouri. He attended Washington University in St. Louis and received a BFA in Graphic Communications in 1987.
